Have you ridden "It's a Small World?"

The environment is magical. The visual portion of the magic owes nearly everything to the lighting. I suspect the figures look cheap, lifeless, and haggard in harsh daylight: something like a forgotten pinata factory meets the state fair. However, the experience is nothing of the sort. The worlds are beautiful and it is because of how we see them, or in other words, how they are illuminated.

Similarly, compare the way celebrities appear on screen relative to paparazzi snapshots.

This magic is what I draw from in the designing of illumination for your environment.

The materials, colors, and translucencies all must work together: designing a lamp is an exercise in modern art with careful attention to line, color, composition, and form.
